Ode to Night-The writings of a 4th grader!

January 12, 2009 · 2 Comments

The first day back to school after Christmas Break.  Aimee comes home with a ‘Writing Portfolio”.  Basically, it is all her writing work from the 2nd grad through the 4th.

Until last night it had been sitting on my desk downstairs.  Finally, when all the kids were in bed.  I got it out and looked it over thoroughly!  I am so glad I did.  At this school they keep the children’swriting portfolio’s.  Unless the child moves.  Then it is given to them.  The portfolio moves with them from class to class each year of attendance.

I really wish I had a creative writing class when I was young.  Sometimes, I just don’t think I form my thoughts well on paper.  And well, sometimes my grammar stinks!

Anyway, as I was almost finished.  I came across this writing Aimee wrote last year.  I thought it was so good that it needed to be shared.  She had to use creative thinking and words.

Ode To Night

Night to me is brilliant with the stars and moon.  The night is also dark.  But to me its like silver and black mixed in a bucket.

Night to me is like a choir singing a chorus because of the sounds at night.  The crickets sound like birds whistling.  The trees sound like blankets warming you up.

Night to me feels like a blanket over my head.  The moon beams shine like a lamp through my window.  The star light feels like a 1,000 sprinkles of night.  Good Night.

A 4th grader. Age 9.

I would like to ask that this is my daughter’s work.  They are her words.  So please do not take them from my blog.

I know I am bias.  I think it is pretty good.

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.

Take Care and enjoy the night…even if it is in the 30’s!  BURRR!
