Summer is slipping away….

July 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hey Guys,

It seems at least to my kids that summer is winding down for them.  They start back to school in less than 2 weeks.  My oldest is starting to come to the reality that he will have to get up a LOT sooner.  Middle school starts at 7:20 in the morning.  Gets out at 2:20 in the afternoon.  He will have to be ready and at the bus stop no later than 6:05am.

So starting Monday night it is back to our routine School bedtime.  So he will be up and ready and hopefully be in a groove by then.  However, Daniel is NOT a morning person at all.

I also got to get back into a routine.  So I am setting myself an alarm clock starting Monday night…to try to get myself back on schedule.  Daniel also has 6th grade orientation on August 1st.  I think he is really looking forward to that.

What is sad is that these kids have to go to school in the heat.  Here in my part of TN….it stays over 90 degrees for the most part all the way through September.  Last year, Halloween my kids were wearing shorts.  It was that warm.

I really enjoy summer.  I get to watch more of Food Network.  For those of you that don’t know I love to cook and bake.  And I really look forward to making Thanksgiving Dinner.  I can cook a mean Turkey.  Really, I can just ask my mom.  She taught me.

I was going to put my 4 year old into pre-school.  First, he really says he doesn’t want to go.  And secondly, why should I send him when I can teach him better myself here at home.  So I am collecting some books and materail that will hopefully get him prepared for Kindergarten and maybe a little ahead of the pack.

My mom always tells me.  Never depend on other for what you can do yourself.  You will probably do it better anyway.  So far she is right.  My mom is one of my biggest cheerleaders and supporters.  Along with my husband and kids.

I miss my mom, sister, grandmother and niece a lot.  My mom is the BEST person to go shopping with.  She makes it so much fun…..

My grandma, well….I think I got about 95% of my domesticness (is that even a word??) from her.  She is one of the BEST cooks around.  I used to sit on her kitchen counter right by where she was preparing food and watch with the greatest curiosity what she was doing.

My sister and niece….I love my sister just as much as I love my own kids.  My niece I feel the same way about even though I have never meet her in person.

Boy, did I ever get off topic…..sorry about that.

I did upload more recipes to my recipe blog.  You can find my recipe blog here.

I am soon going to be putting up a crafty type recipe on what to do with all those broken crayons…..DON’T THROW THEM AWAY!*

Also I am participating in the Bloggy giveaway again this quarter it will be posted a on June 28th at midnight. Really the 27th, I will post it before heading off to bed for the night. So be on the look out for it.  I am giving away 2 awesome items this time.

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday.

Silly Kid….

July 22, 2008 · 5 Comments

Hey Guys,

The title of my post is in reference to my youngest, David who is 4 years old. He is such a sweet and loving child.  He loves his brother’s and sister.  And is CRAZY about his daddy.

Two nights ago, I was getting some cleaning done upstairs.  Eric and David were downstairs watching television.  They were setting on the sofa together.  If you know David, he likes to be touching you when he sits by you.  He was playing away on his Gameboy game.

Eric decided to aske him if he had a ‘poopy’ underwear.  Without skipping a beat David said “No, do you?”  All the while still playing his Gameboy game and not missing a beat of the conversation.  Eric ran upstain in a crazy laugh.  He was so serious with his Question to Dad.  It was like he was thinking ‘No, why are you asking me that anyway.”  You might have had to be there to actually ‘get’ it.  I knowing him like I do just starting out laughing.

David’s new thing is to give ‘Eye’ Kisses.  You close your eyes and he will kiss the lids.  He loves to give Eye kisses and will even ask you if you will like an Eye kiss if he hasn’t given one to you in the last twenty minutes.  He loves to sit in Eric and I’s Lap.  And he will snuggle right into us.

He LOVES to be read to.  He also loves to color, draw and ‘write’.  He is Eric’s little buddy and my Pumpkin boy.  I am really going to miss him when next school year rolls around and he goes off to Kindergarten.

Aimee and Zachary know who there teacher’s are going to be for this coming year.  Aimee has one of the hardest if not THE hardest teachers of 5th grade.  Zachary’s teacher I really don’t know too much about.  Zachary is our ‘wild child’ so I always grint my teeth until he gets home.  He got in trouble quite a bit last year.  At the end of the year he hadn’t got into trouble at all for 2 and a half straight months.  Hopefully, Keeping my finger’s crossed he will not get into trouble this year.

With school starting I have a question for all of you…

What is your favorite school time memory?

As for me my favorite memory was when I was old enough and driving I would drive myself and my sister to school.  I can remember watching my sister go into her classroom.  I would move from where I was standing until I knew she made it in her class saftely  And then at the end of the day, waiting for her to run up to the car and get in and start talking.  I just love her to pieces and still do.  For those of you that don’t know, My sister is 8 years younger than me.  I love having a sister and God blessed me with the Best of the best.

I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday.

So Thrilled!!!!!

July 20, 2008 · 6 Comments

Hey Guys,

I am so thrilled. I forgot to mention in my latest blog entry that a lady hired me to make 5 custom black background white polk dot headbands for her WEDDING!!!!  My headbands are going to be used on the bridesmaides and maid of honor.  WOW!!!!  I am also so touched.  This is my first custom order since I started selling my headbands in March.

I wanted to get them perfect for her since they are going to be wore on her special day.  So I told her that they wouldn’t ship until Tuesday or Wednesday.  Guess What!!!  I have them done!  WHOHOO!  I am so excited.  Each one of them went together so EASY!  I was done with all of them in 1 hour!!!! Thats a record.

Here they are…..I do have some strings to remove before shipping out.  I wanted to get a picture of them though before I forgot.

I never heard of a Polka Dot wedding before.  It sounds usually beautiful!  I hope she likes them. I made this sale on eBay of all places.  I thought for sure a sale like this would come from Etsy first.

Jennifer, you were right about the calculator.  And you were also right to both Judy and Jennifer about the tabs things.  Thank you all so much.

It has been a long day….and Eric and I just discovered a boo-boo on David’s right hand.  I hope you all had a Awesome Sunday.  I hope your new week goes wonderful.

Getting Close to school Time!

July 19, 2008 · 5 Comments

Hey Guys!

Yesterday, my husband came home from work with a middle School Supply list.  I did a silly thing and ‘thought’ that the middle school supply list would be so much shorter than the elementary school list.  I was mistaken!

Here is my son Daniel’s Middle School Supply List.

1. 3 inch binder (trapper keeper style)

2. Subject Tab Dividers (preferable in different colors)

3. Three-holed zippered pencil pouch that will fit in binder.

4. Loose-leaf notebook paper (wide rule)

5.  #2 pencils (about 24 pencils)

6. Two ink pens in different colors (preferred colors are red and blue)

7. 5 highlighters- Orange, blue, pink, yellow, and green

8. colored pencils

9. ruler

10. Scissors

11. Glue Stick

12. Package of paper reinforcers (I have NO clue what this is)

13. Calculator-T130 II preferred —Anyone have ANY idea where to buy this calculator.  I have looked EVERYWHERE online and I can’t find it anywhere.

14. 1 Dry Erase Marker

15.  Backpack–That is a given.

The elementary school list is not out just yet.  I dread seeing it.  I just looked it up online….Gosh, I am going to be spending a BUNDLE this year again just on school supplies.  I still don’t remember my mom spending and getting this much for me when I started school.  I don’t know maybe she did.  Oh, and I have to remember that this is NOT the complete list.  Different teachers will want the kids to have different things.

My son Zachary is going into the second grade here is his ‘partial’ list.

1 box of tissues

1 folder with pockets (no trapper keepers)

1 box of crayons (48count)

1 pair of scissors

1 bottle of white glue

1 glue stick

1 bottle of liquid hand soap

1 bottle of hand sanitizer

1 small school box

1 package of # 2 pencils

2 spiral notebooks

1 ream of white copy paper

1 package of antibacterial wipes

2 rolls of paper towels

Aimee is going into the 5th grade.  Here is her ‘partial’ list.

2 boxes of tissue

1 box of crayons (48 count)

1 pair of small scissors

1 bottle of white glue

2 packages of # 2 pencils

1 package of markers

1 package of highlighters

1 ruler (12’’ with centimeters and inches)

1 small pencil/supply pouch

1 bottle of antibacterial soap (refill only)

1 ream of copy paper

2 packages of loose leaf, wide ruled paper

6 folders with pockets and fasteners (1 each: blue, red, yellow, green, orange, and purple)

This year Daniel will have to get up VERY early.  Last year he was waking up at 6:30am.  This year he will have to wake up before 6am to meet the bus at 6:55 in the morning. That is going to be a BIG change for Daniel. Aimee and Zachary bus comes at around 8 am.

Daniel also has 6th Grade Orientation on August 1st.  He seems to be excited about that.

Another big change is that the kids are going to be eating lunch that the school provides this year.  Once a week they can take there lunch for home if they choose to.

Bedtimes will be going back to the School bedtime schedule.  Of Zachary in bed at 8pm and Daniel and Aimee and 9pm.  There Summer bedtime schedule is 9:30pm for Zachary and 10:30 for Daniel and Aimee.  I am a firm and strick believe in routine and bedtimes.  Kids need there sleep in order to functions and maintain good grades in school.

There are some mother’s on my street that can’t believe I put my kids to be so early.  Zachary’s bedtime used to be 7:30.  And it also gives me time to wind down, clean and spend time with my husband.

When do your local school’s resume for the new school year?

Zachary is not feeling well today.  So, I will be tending to him.  I have a custom order of headbands that I am going to be starting.  And I have laundry to do.  And, also take care of my other three kids.

I hope you all have a super Saturday.

What did I do today….

July 17, 2008 · 6 Comments

Hey Guys!

Hope you all are having a wonderful Thursday!  I had a tiring day today.  I want to go on record that I am SO ready for school to start back.  August 8th can not come soon enough for me.

As for the Title of Today….I mowed and refereed little spats between boys and a girl.  Yes, my kids were in rare form today.  Started from the second the first one woke up.

It is days like today, that I need an outlet….and what better outlet to have than blogging.

It was super hot today mowing.  I started at around 9:45 this morning and ended at 12:15.  I did take two breaks….but Geez, I live on a hill (for lack of a better word.  And on one side of my house it is all up hill and slanted.  The back of my yard is growing grass a lot better and is getting VERY green.  We do need to get someone out to level our yard.  Our contractors did a HORRIBLE job on our back and side yards.

I am also wanting to redo our front……I have about 10 bushes that I just love.  I don’t know what they are called.  Then I also have these awful little spider type plants that do not get full they kind of grow out not out and up.  I want to take all of those out.  I want to get some seating for my front porch.  I really want a Bistro set for the front porch as well.  I also want a new front door.  Hate the look of mine.  Most of all I just want to get some color outside.

Here is what the outside of my house look likes.  We no longer have the pool to the side.

What kind of plants and flower do any of you recommend.  I really like whites, yellows, and purples.  Also reds.  We are eventually going to put a dog wood tree in the front and a flag and flag pole in on the right side (as you are looking at it) in front of the garage.

It is so odd or I should say I am odd….I am 35 years old.   Just starting to sew, and now picking up interest in gardening…

Anyway, it is getting late in the evening and I have got to go and calm down all 4 kids…..OH JOY!

Have a great evening.

Here they are…..

July 15, 2008 · 4 Comments

Hey Guys!

I know I have been promising pictures of my little clutch and my checkbook cover.  I finally got around today of taking the pictures.

  So without further ado….The pictures!

The Clutch-

This was my first clutch.  The most NERVE racking part of it was getting the flap attatched and then top stitching around it.  I bet it took me an hour just to get that done.

 The Checkbook cover/Holder-

This was SO simple…I would change and do a couple more things differently.  I would interface every piece of fabric to give it some stability.  And I would trim my edges better, before flipping right side out.

The fabric is Michael Miller fabric.  The Flowery pattern is Nanette in Provence.  The Stripes are Big Ticking in Provence.  The fabric is really easy to work with and so vibrant.

And if any sewer has a simple way of making darts, please let me know.

I also got about 9 recipes posted on my recipe blog.  You can find them here.

Have a wonderful Tuesday Evening.

It’s a Beautiful Day!

July 11, 2008 · 3 Comments

Hey Guys!

It is SUCH a beautiful Day in Tn. It is not too hot.  At least not yet.  My kids are all playing NICELY with each other.  The Cat is doing his job at following me around.  And the fish are all feed and look quite lovely today.

We are coming up on having our GoldFish for 2 months.  They are doing great!  They are so shiny. Roxie lost ALL of her black spots.  And Doxie is not the runt anymore.  She has actually grown some.  By Christmas they will need a new tank.

Judy, I did use a pattern for my checkbook cover.  The pattern printed out kind of wonky so I traced my own after printing it out.  Here is where I got it from.  It is really basic.

http://sewing.about.com/od/bagstotespurseproject/ss/checkbookcover.htm

Now, I am looking for a Awesome Apron Pattern.  I would love to make my daughter a Apron for Christmas.  David who is 4,  LOVES to cook.  I want to make him a apron but I don’t want it to be Girly.  Anyone have any suggestions on patterns?

I also need to find a apron patter for a little girl ages of 2 and 4.

Not a whole lot else going on today.  I think I will do laundry today and pick up some.  I have about 10 headbands that also need to be made before Monday.  I will more than likely start on those tomorrow.

I have got to run.  Eric will be home from class in a moment.  I still need to make him his lunch, and get him something prepared for his dinner at work tonight.

Have a fabulous Friday.  And a safe and Happy Weekend!  (Hopefully, I will make some blog entries this weekend as well as post on my recipe blog….)
