Goin’ Green
May 14, 2008 by Suprina
Hey Guys!
I never thought I would say “Yeap, were going green!” But I am. And it is all because of my daughter Aimee. We are not going to go “totally” nuts (and I say that in the nicest way) about going green.
However, if we can help the environment in anyway that is possible for us—–we will.
So next month sometime we are going to purchase bins a few bins to toss our recyclables into. We will purchase two or three. I know one for cans, and one for plastic. I am forgetting the third….help me out here…LOL
And we are also going to purchase some canvas bags to take along on shopping trips. We will probably purchase between 15 and 20 of this and keep some in the car and in my purse….etc. We are also going to be changing the rest of our lights in our house the the energy efficient ones.
We are making sure that all lights are turned off when someone is not using a particular room.
And when we finally do purchase a new vehicle we will try and purchase a Hybrid. Aimee has even gotten her daddy wanting to do these things.
I people do more than just this. But we figure it is a start. And every little bit helps.
We are taking mere baby steps to help out…hopefully we can grow to bigger steps.
So have you gone “Green” yet?

Newspaper? Is that the last one?
Our city is in the process of starting a recycle drive. It had to go before the council. Oy. I have been looking into it a little online.
I do wash my dishes by hand now to use less water as well as electricity. It’s easier now that it is just hubby and I now at meals. The whole lights thing I have been doing for a while. Used to collect cans but there’s no place local to turn them in. So as soon as they get all that going for the city I will be sorting it all ant turning it in.
We can help.
My town has a recycling program which we do take part in. I can place all plastics, glass and cans into one “blue”bag…newpapers and cardboard go togeather also…they do even odd pick-ups here, each week. My bulbs are changed over, and i do dishes by hand, because of no dishwasher in my kitchen (but empty-nesters dont make that many dishes) LOL So we are Green!!! And the programable thermostate is GREAT ty hubbydear! But this has been every day life for us for some time now! We are use to it,and looking for more idea’s all the time!
Green=clean
BTW Hi i am a friend of DeeJay’s,and found your site on her blog. Nice to meet/read you! I will be hangin out here, if you don’t mind. Have a good day
Be careful with those compact fluorescents. If you break a bulb they are incredible toxic. They contain mercury- not very environmentally friendly!
I got tired of those dang plastic bags and purchased the “special” greenbags from Publix. They’re great and hold way more than those stupid plastic ones.
I was going to say you need one for paper. I have been thinking of this too, just haven’t taken the steps yet. With having our house up for sale it’s hard to bring in more clutter items.
And you can recycle food things for your garden or flower beds, like potato peels and such by making a compost but that involves some work & reserch first I think.
OH! And the canvas bags? Try looking on Oriental Trading to see if they have the size you’d want as they sell most things in bulk and might save you some $$ that way too.
We don’t really buy bottled water anymore, instead we filter it through our fridge filter and put it into sports bottles or reuse old Gatorade bottles to cut down on those.
PS>>>> this is Jennifer, I signed up with wordpress for an account and now everytime I comment here it shows up as jrasmom
